Amazon Japan partner AZ-COM Maruwa moves 2,300 carriers to JPYC stablecoin
AZ-COM Maruwa, a major logistics partner for Amazon in Japan, will invest ¥1 billion (about $6.7 million) in the JPYC stablecoin to move carrier settlements on-chain — the largest corporate rollout of a yen-pegged stablecoin the country has seen so far.
What's Actually Changing
Settlements with drivers and carriers, currently handled through conventional bank transfers, will move to JPYC — a token pegged one-to-one to the Japanese yen. The change will affect settlements with roughly 2,300 of the company's carrier partners.
Why the Company Is Doing This
JPYC transfers don't carry transfer fees, which enables faster and more frequent payouts compared to traditional bank transfers — an especially important factor in a sector where carriers often want to be paid for runs as quickly as possible.
Market Context
On-chain circulation of JPYC crossed 2 billion yen in July 2026, with the JPYC EX platform now counting around 19,000 accounts. AZ-COM Maruwa's rollout comes amid a broader acceleration of interest from Japanese banks, fintechs, and retailers in regulated stablecoins: MUFG, SMBC, and Mizuho are jointly developing their own yen stablecoin and have already begun proof-of-concept transactions under the Financial Services Agency's (FSA) Payment Innovation Project, targeting live commercial use this fiscal year.
What This Means in Practice
A logistics contractor of this scale moving to stablecoin settlements is a signal that yen stablecoins in Japan are moving out of the experimental phase and into real, measurable commercial use across thousands of counterparties. For the logistics industry, it's a concrete case study in fee savings and settlement speed that other large companies in the sector will likely study closely before making their own moves.
