Bitcoin breaks out toward $64,000 as ETF inflows outweigh bearish news
As of the morning of August 5, bitcoin is trading around $64,038 — up nearly 1% from a day earlier. That finally pushes the coin out of the tight $62,200-$64,000 range it had held for several days.
Bitcoin's market cap sits around $1.28 trillion, with $22.89 billion in daily trading volume, and its dominance across the broader crypto market at 56.5%. The Fear & Greed Index ticked up slightly to 27 from 25 a day earlier — the market remains in "fear" territory, but a touch less anxious than the day before.
- Spot bitcoin ETF inflows topped $170 million on August 4, including $111.43 million into BlackRock's IBIT
- Bitcoin broke out of the $62,200-$64,000 range it had held for several prior days
- The Fear & Greed Index rose from 25 to 27
The move comes against a mixed news backdrop: on one hand, concerns persist around exchange inflows and regulatory uncertainty — including something we covered ourselves, how the CLARITY Act again failed to get a Senate vote before recess. On the other, institutional signals remain positive: alongside the return of ETF inflows, easing tensions in the Middle East and an overall improvement in risk appetite also worked in buyers' favor. We previously covered how bitcoin got stuck in the $62,200-$64,000 range as technical signals diverged — today's move looks like the first genuine break out of that consolidation, rather than more noise inside it.
It's too early to call this a full trend reversal — one day of gains on institutional inflows doesn't erase the regulatory uncertainty that's built up. But the combination of returning ETF demand and a gradually improving Fear & Greed reading is exactly the kind of signal that tends to precede a more durable move, if it holds for more than a single day.
