First time since April: bitcoin ETFs post a fifth straight day of inflows
US spot bitcoin ETFs have logged a fifth consecutive trading day of net inflows — something that hadn't happened since late April 2026. The streak coincided with bitcoin's return above $65,000 and a broader recovery in risk appetite across crypto markets.
How Much Money Came In
According to SoSoValue data, the funds took in roughly $227 million in net inflows on July 20 — marking the fifth straight day of positive flows. Across the full five-day run, estimates put total inflows anywhere from $610 million to $727 million — the most sustained stretch of buying since the record outflows of June. Total bitcoin ETF assets under management have climbed back to around $79 billion, recovering some ground from a July low near $75 billion.
What About Ethereum ETFs
On that same day, July 20, ether ETFs also posted inflows — about $38 million, with BlackRock's ETHA leading in volume raised. That suggests the return of institutional demand isn't limited to bitcoin alone.
How Price Behaved During This Stretch
Throughout the inflow streak, bitcoin traded in a roughly $63,000– $66,000 range, and as of publication had climbed 1.6% to $65,479. Analysts flag $65,700 as the nearest resistance and $64,000 as key support. Futures open interest rose to $32 billion, while options data shows reduced demand for downside protection — another indirect sign that market participants have grown a bit calmer about downside risk.
Why Market Participants Are Still Cautious
Despite the positive streak, observers note that spot market activity remains subdued, meaning investor conviction in the move's durability is still limited. The next major reference point will be the Fed's July 28-29 meeting — its outcome will largely determine whether the inflow streak continues or the market slips back into caution.
Why It Matters
Five straight days of positive flows after nearly two months dominated by outflows is a notable signal of shifting institutional sentiment, but not yet enough to call a full reversal of the months-long outflow trend. The market will be watching closely to see whether the streak can extend past five days — and what the Fed's meeting has to say about it.
