Bitcoin ETF flows: $175.6m in on Tuesday, $597.6m out across five days
US spot bitcoin ETFs pulled in $175.62m on 13 October after $65.4m left the day before. Three funds account for the whole figure: Fidelity's FBTC with $103.06m, BlackRock's IBIT with $65.89m and Morgan Stanley's MSBT with $6.67m, so everything else netted out to zero.
What the week looked like
The week before ran the other way. Between 5 and 9 October bitcoin funds lost $681m and ether funds lost $542m, $1.223bn between them. Inside that week sat the 8 October session when $487.1m left bitcoin ETFs, which we measured against the whole year's net inflow. Ether funds closed 9 October with a $56.1m outflow and a ninth consecutive losing session, the pattern we tracked when the two flows split apart earlier in the month.
Across the five trading days ending 13 October the balance comes to $597.6m of net redemptions, an average of $119.5m a day. For scale, a single day of that size equals about 1,440 bitcoin at the current price, which the funds buy or sell without touching an exchange order book directly.
What the stock looks like
The stock behind those flows barely moved. Cumulative net inflows since the January 2024 launch stand at $57.22bn, and total net assets reach $106.98bn, which is 6.38% of bitcoin's market capitalisation. The week's $681m of bitcoin redemptions equals 1.19% of everything the funds have taken since launch.
IBIT holds $66.92bn of those net assets, 62.6% of the category, with FBTC at $14.92bn and GBTC at $10.48bn. On 13 October IBIT traded $1.33bn of the $1.65bn that moved across all bitcoin ETFs, 80.6% of the volume against 62.6% of the assets. The 18-point gap says where the liquidity lives on a busy day.
“Lifetime cumulative flows are getting really close to a new high water mark, which is arguably astonishing given what they have been through over the past 11 months”
— Eric Balchunas, Senior ETF analyst, Bloomberg
What the analysts say
Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas framed the cumulative picture this month, calling the approach to a new high water mark astonishing given the past eleven months. His colleague James Seyffart put the funds about $5bn short of the peak they set on 10 October last year, so the category needs 8.7% more cumulative inflow to beat its own record.
Three things settle before the month ends. Whether the ether streak breaks. Whether FBTC keeps leading days that IBIT used to lead. And whether the five-day balance turns positive, with October standing at $386.3m of net bitcoin outflows and eleven trading days left.
Informational material, not investment advice. Flow figures come from daily fund disclosures compiled on 14 October 2026; a single day of redemptions says nothing about the next one.
