Coinbase Launches Advisor, an AI Investment Agent Registered With the SEC
As part of its June system update, Coinbase launched Coinbase Advisor, an AI agent that gives personalized investment recommendations to Coinbase One subscribers in the U.S. It's billed as one of the first AI advisors in the world formally registered with the SEC as an investment adviser — meaning the regulator recognizes the agent itself, not just the company behind it, as the party carrying formal obligations to the client.
- Currently available only to U.S. Coinbase One subscribers, as part of a beta rollout.
- Analyzes a user's portfolio in real time and suggests tax-loss harvesting strategies (selling losing positions to offset taxes).
- Turns breaking news into concrete trade ideas across multiple asset classes at once.
We registered the AI agent itself with the SEC as an investment advisor. It has your complete context on your portfolio and account history. Speak to it in plain English to take action.
Coinbase is upfront that Advisor's outputs may be "inaccurate or incomplete" and that users shouldn't rely on its recommendations alone. That's a direct continuation of an earlier move, letting AI agents trade crypto on a user's behalf — except now the agent doesn't just execute trades, it formally carries the role of adviser in the eyes of the regulator.
