Dubai’s VARA Teams Up with Securitize to Boost Digital Asset Tokenization
In a move to strengthen the United Arab Emirates’ position as a leading hub for financial technology, Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Securitize, a premier tokenization firm supported by BlackRock. This strategic partnership aims to build a robust regulatory and operational framework for digital asset tokenization across the region.
According to the official announcement, the alliance will concentrate on nurturing regulated tokenization projects, exploring new operational standards for financial products, and encouraging institutional involvement within Dubai's flourishing crypto ecosystem. While specific technological products or immediate project launches were not unveiled at this stage, a VARA representative emphasized that the MoU merges the watchdog’s regulatory oversight with Securitize’s vast experience in institutional markets to foster trusted financial environments.
Carlos Domingo, co-founder and CEO of Securitize, praised Dubai as a pioneering jurisdiction for digital innovation. He noted that as tokenization transitions from an experimental concept to a core component of mainstream financial infrastructure, cooperating closely with proactive regulators is vital. Securitize currently dominates the global tokenization sector, boasting $4.9 billion in assets under management (AUM).
The agreement arrives amidst a massive global surge in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Recent analytics from RWA.xyz indicate a 103% jump in RWA holders to 3.2 million over just 30 days, pushing the total tokenized asset market up by 2% to an estimated $38.5 billion. VARA has also been highly active on the local front; in early July, the regulator awarded its 50th Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license to Tribe Tokenisation FZE, further cementing Dubai's long-term commitment to Web3 adoption.
