Fitbit Edge costs $179.99, and the AI coach costs $99 a year
Google opened pre-orders for the Fitbit Edge at $179.99 on 12 October, with shipping on 27 October and a Stephen Curry edition at $219.99. The band sits between the cheap Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5, and carries a pill-shaped AMOLED panel 46% larger than the Charge 6 from 2023, GPS that Google calls 40% more precise, an altimeter, ECG, SpO2 and a skin temperature sensor in an 11.5mm aluminium body rated IP68 and 5ATM.
What the band does
The battery runs a week with the always-on display off and about two days with it on. You can open the case and swap the cell, the same repair Google allows on the Pixel Watch 5, which matters on a device people wear in the shower for three years.
“A five-minute charge gives you a day of battery, and a full charge takes 90 minutes”
— Google, Fitbit Edge announcement, 12 October 2026
What the subscription costs
The coaching costs extra. Google Health Premium, which was Fitbit Premium until 19 May 2026, runs $9.99 a month or $99 a year, and the Gemini coach behind it reads your fitness, sleep, nutrition and cycle data, the local weather, and in the United States your medical records. Without the subscription the Edge counts steps and heartbeats.
Run the arithmetic over three years. The hardware costs $179.99 once, the subscription costs $297 over the same period, and the annual plan passes the price of the band itself after 22 months. Paying monthly comes to $119.88 a year, $20.88 above the annual rate for the same coach.
Google calls the thing a coach; in the vocabulary of the field it is an AI agent with a sensor feed and a billing cycle. The sensor list reaches past a step counter. ECG, blood oxygen and skin temperature describe a body in clinical terms, and the coach adds the clinic record on top of them in the US. What a service keeps matters more than what it shows you, which is the question we put to the chat assistants when we went looking for where the data lands.
What is checkable
The price, the ship date and the battery claim are checkable, and reviewers will have the last of them inside a month. The retention question takes longer and lands on the same ground as our test of three AI agents, where each one kept a cloud of its own. Ask how long a weekly routine holds the medical record it was built from, and the answer tells you what you bought.
Informational material, not investment advice. Prices and specifications come from Google's announcement on 12 October 2026, and the battery claims await independent testing.
