Elon Musk's AI Wikipedia hasn't been updated in months
Grokipedia, xAI's AI-generated alternative to Wikipedia, launched in late October 2025 with more than 885,000 articles — and stopped processing reader-submitted edits back on April 24, 2026. An investigation by Lawfare (authors Renée DiResta and Ronald Robertson) found the project has effectively been frozen ever since, and xAI never announced or explained it.
On the site's ChatGPT entry, 12 edits submitted on April 24 were approved the same day — but every edit submitted afterward, across May, June, and July, remains stuck "in review." The same pattern holds regardless of topic or traffic: major political entries on figures from both parties and an entry on a second-division football club are stalled the same way. The site's live change feed has disappeared, some past edit decisions were retroactively reverted without explanation, no new decisions are being issued, and article text looks frozen and outdated.
“We do not know whether xAI is preparing a major revision or has altogether abandoned active development of the project.”
— Renée DiResta and Ronald Robertson, Lawfare
- Edit processing stopped on April 24, 2026 — articles have effectively gone unupdated since
- At its October 2025 launch, Grokipedia counted 885,000+ articles (vs. Wikipedia's 7 million+)
- xAI has not officially explained or even confirmed the halt in edit moderation
The story adds to a broader set of questions around xAI's products: we previously covered how the Grok and xAI ecosystem was built and the decisions Musk made along the way. Grokipedia was originally pitched as a faster, "unbiased" alternative to Wikipedia — but if reader edits genuinely haven't been processed in months, the gap between the project's stated premise and its actual state looks like more than a temporary technical hiccup.
Nothing here should be taken as financial advice — just information to consider.
