Hyundai Card Moved Money via Stablecoins in 7 Minutes

1

South Korea's Hyundai Card has completed its first-ever pilot for cross-border money transfers using stablecoins: a Hyundai Motor America unit converted $20,000 into USDT and sent it to the company's Mexican affiliate over the Avalanche network with Tether involved, The Block reports.

The entire process took about seven minutes, versus 3-4 hours for a standard interbank transfer. This is the first cross-border corporate stablecoin transfer pilot by a South Korean card company, Korea Times notes.

What this means in practice: the gap between 7 minutes and 3-4 hours isn't just a technicality — it's real money for a business running hundreds or thousands of such transfers a month between subsidiaries in different countries. A second pilot, now involving Visa and Circle, is set to begin later this month between Hyundai Motor's European entities — this time with local currencies, not just the dollar.
