MoonPay unveils Paybox — a wallet that lets ChatGPT and Claude shop on your behalf
MoonPay has unveiled Paybox, a decentralized AI wallet that lets non-technical ChatGPT and Claude users make purchases and payments autonomously, with no coding required. The service goes live on July 28, 2026, CryptoBriefing reports.
How it works
An agent connects to Paybox through the Connectors menu in Claude or ChatGPT and gets access to a user's funds — from a bank account or a crypto wallet. From there, the user can simply tell their assistant in plain English to make a purchase at any merchant that supports interacting with AI agents.
What you can buy
- Amazon purchases
- Restaurant bookings via Resy
- Flights — through the agent-friendly service Brij
- Direct payments to other merchants that support agentic payments
An open protocol, not a walled garden
Paybox runs on the open x402 protocol and doesn't depend on MoonPay's own permissions — meaning it theoretically doesn't favor any particular merchant.
“The giants are building agentic payments inside their own walls; we're the opposite bet: your own money, on open rails, reaching everything the walled versions can't, from a dinner reservation to a DeFi protocol.”
— Neeraj Prasad, Chief Engineer at MoonPay Labs

What about the risks
Users will be able to set spending limits (say, no more than $100 per purchase) and require confirmation before each payment. Still, Fortune itself notes it's unclear how Paybox will handle fraudulent or mistaken purchases — the agentic-commerce market is still very young. Brave recently unveiled a similar AI-agent payments model — we covered it in a separate piece.
