Top 10 altcoins are all rising — but the Fear & Greed Index says otherwise
The Fear & Greed Index sits at 29 today — still reading "fear." But look past sentiment and at the actual numbers: nine of the top 10 altcoins gained over the past 24 hours, and the total crypto market cap added 1.3% to reach $2.2 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap.
- Ethereum (ETH) — $1,912.83, +1.72%
- BNB — $570.66, +1.07%
- XRP — $1.08, +3.05%
- Solana (SOL) — $73.96, +1.12%
- TRON (TRX) — $0.3255, +0.28%
- Hyperliquid (HYPE) — $55.25, +0.33%
- Dogecoin (DOGE) — $0.07077, +0.88%
- UNUS SED LEO — $9.75, +0.06%
- Zcash (ZEC) — $466.12, +0.40%
- Monero (XMR) — $349.67, +2.65%
One notable detail today: two privacy-focused coins, Zcash and Monero, are moving up in sync — normally they trade independently of the broader market and of each other.
Outside the top 10 by market cap, the day's sharpest move belongs to Orochi Network: the ON token jumped 74.5% in 24 hours on $60 million in volume, though sources haven't pinned down a clear trigger yet. Today's biggest losers include Pyth Network (−7.1%) and MemeCore (−5.25%), CoinGabbar notes.
We covered a similar market snapshot last week, when Lido and Uniswap were outpacing Ethereum's own gains — top 10 altcoins over 48 hours; then, as now, individual tokens' local spikes were running well ahead of the biggest coins by market cap.
A broad but modest rally across almost the entire top 10, paired with a Fear & Greed reading of 29, is usually less about euphoria and more about the market cautiously feeling for a bottom — buying a little, without quite admitting it out loud yet.
