XRP Ledger payments jump 33.6% toward the 1 million mark
The XRP Ledger processed 879,868 payments in a single 24-hour window on September 1, a 33.6% jump from the previous day, u.today reports. The network sits roughly 13.7% below the 1 million daily payments mark that traders have treated as a milestone this year.
- The one-day total of roughly 890,000 payments runs 193,000 above the network's 30-day average of 686,800 payments, according to XRPSCAN data cited in the report
- Daily payment counts on the XRP Ledger have mostly ranged between 500,000 and 1 million in recent weeks, well below the 1.5 million-plus days the network logged between February and May, and its all-time peak of roughly 6 million payments in a single day
- XRP itself traded around $1.32, down from an August peak just above $1.50, with its 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day exponential moving averages clustered between $1.22 and $1.35
- Traders are watching $1.27 to $1.28 and $1.21 to $1.22 as the nearest support zones if the pullback from August's high continues
Payment count is a narrower, more useful gauge than total XRP Ledger transactions. The ledger also processes DEX trades, trustline changes, and NFT operations, all of which inflate the broader transaction count without reflecting value moving between wallets. A rising payment count signals more transfers, whether that is retail activity, exchange rebalancing, or institutional settlement, which is why traders track it as a separate metric from raw throughput. On the ledger itself, a Payment is a distinct transaction type: XRP or an issued token moving from one account to another, as opposed to an OfferCreate, TrustSet, or NFTokenMint call that also adds to total throughput without representing a straightforward transfer of value. That specificity is why analysts single out the metric rather than fold it into aggregate volume.
The uptick follows two other XRP Ledger usage signals Intokened has tracked in recent weeks. Active addresses on the network jumped 650% in late August even as price pulled back, an unusual split between rising usage and falling price. On the institutional side, XRP ETFs have kept pulling in flows, with Goldman Sachs now the largest institutional holder tracked across the funds. None of that guarantees the payment count crosses 1 million; it does show XRP Ledger activity climbing on more than one metric at once.
Payment counts and active-address growth are usage metrics, not price signals, and XRP has spent the past few weeks drifting lower even as both climbed. But a network processing close to 900,000 payments a day, one strong day away from seven figures, is doing more real work than the price chart alone suggests.
