Delete a word in the transcript and it leaves the video: podcast editing becomes document editing

About the company
Descript was built in 2017 by Andrew Mason, who had founded Groupon and taken it public before moving into audio tours — the project the editor grew out of. Its logic is simple and nobody else has pushed it as far: the recording becomes text, and editing the text edits the recording. For podcasts and training video that removes the real pain, which is hunting for the right second on a timeline. Everything since has been built around that one idea: screen capture, a voice clone for re-recording a single line, one-click removal of every "um". The free tier is a demo rather than a plan — sixty transcript minutes and a watermark on export.
