About the company
xAI, the company Elon Musk founded in 2023, released Grok in November of that year as a chatbot inside X. It grew into a standalone app with voice, file reading and the Imagine generator for images and video. In October 2026 xAI moved new customers to one subscription that bundles Grok with X perks such as a verification badge and fewer ads. The tiers differ by how much of a shared usage pool you get, from Plus up to Ultra at fifty times the Plus allowance.
