Re-voices footage into another language and reshapes the mouth to the new speech, keeping the same person on screen

About the company
HeyGen was founded in 2020 by Joshua Xu and Wayne Liang, both previously at Snap, and spent its first years as Movio making videos for sales teams. The turn came when a speaking avatar was added to those templates: a training video no longer needed a camera, lights, or a person on set. Its main bet now is translation — the service takes existing footage, voices it in another language and reshapes the mouth to the new track, which takes localising a course out of the production budget. In January 2026 the company closed the Team plan to new subscribers, which is worth knowing when picking a plan for a group.
