About the company
Runway was started in 2018 by Cristóbal Valenzuela, Anastasis Germanidis and Alejandro Matamala, who met at NYU while trying to put neural networks into the hands of artists. Its first commercial win came from editing rather than generation: Runway could pull a background without a green screen before that was ordinary. Gen-3 and the models after it moved the company into film and advertising work, including post-production on Everything Everywhere All at Once. What separates it from the rest is that the shot you generate stays editable in the same place, instead of starting a second piece of software after export.
