Polygon Open Money Stack adds Solana two weeks after TRON

Polygon's announcement credits Solana with more than $2 trillion in stablecoin volume every quarter. The Solana Foundation, speaking on the same day, put the whole of 2026 at $5.5 trillion. Polygon Labs opened its Open Money Stack to Solana on Thursday, and a business there can now take dollars out of a customer's bank account, hold them as stablecoin, move them across six chains and pay out to a bank, a card or a cash desk, through one integration and one contract. A chain Polygon competes with has become a destination inside Polygon's own payment product.

Fifteen days, three announcements

The sequence started two weeks ago, when Polygon got the licensing that makes the stack legal in the United States.

  • 13 January 2026: Polygon Labs agrees to buy Coinme and the wallet firm Sequence for more than $250 million.
  • 14 October: the Coinme purchase closes, bringing 37 state money transmitter licences and 11 exemptions.
  • 15 October: TRON joins the stack, the first network outside the EVM world.
  • 29 October: Solana joins, eight days after its Alpenglow upgrade cut finality to 150 milliseconds.

Look again at the licence line. Polygon says its on-ramp is backed by money transmitter licences across 48 US states. Coinme brought 37 of those as licences. The other eleven states do not require one for this activity, so it holds an exemption there. The coverage reaches 48 states either way, and if you are buying regulatory cover, the eleven exemptions are the part worth checking.

Whose trillion is it

Polygon's own blog puts Solana at more than $2 trillion in stablecoin volume each quarter. Vibhu Norby, chief product officer at the Solana Foundation, told The Block the network moved more than $5.5 trillion across 2026. We had the figure at $5 trillion on 24 September. That is $500 billion in thirty-five days, or about $100 billion a week, which works out at $1.3 trillion a quarter. Spread the full $5.5 trillion evenly across ten months instead and you get $1.66 trillion. Both of Solana's own figures land under $2 trillion, which is the number Polygon quoted.

The chain stops being the product

“Enterprises put less value on which network a payment runs on and more value on having it be the network where funds are already available”

— Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs, in remarks reported by Bitcoin.com News, https://news.bitcoin.com/blockchain/polygon-adds-solana-open-money-stack-major-expansion/

That is an unusual sentence from the head of a blockchain. Polygon Labs spent years persuading businesses to deploy on its own chain. The product it sells today routes USDC, USDT, PYUSD, SOL and wrapped SOL between Solana, TRON and the EVM networks, and Polygon sits in that list beside Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and Optimism. Sandeep Nailwal, who runs the Polygon Foundation, framed it the same way: businesses build on the network their customers choose, and Polygon handles the money movement around it.

Run Polygon's own remittance illustration through a calculator. A sender hands $2,000 to a US bank, the stack delivers 2,000 USDC on Solana, and the family in Mexico receives 36,840 pesos. That implies 18.42 pesos to the dollar. Thursday's spot rate was 18.65, which would have bought 37,307. The missing 467 pesos, about 1.25% of the transfer, sit inside the conversion rate rather than on a fee line. Banks price the same way and so does every remittance app. The stack removes the bridge and the second provider. The spread stays.

What to watch

Kira, a cross-border payments firm, is the first customer Polygon named on Solana, and its chief executive Edrizio De La Cruz says his clients already move stablecoin there and need the dollars to land in a bank. Five weeks ago the Solana Foundation hired Jamal Raees away from Polygon Labs to run payments. Both organisations now pitch the same fintechs. Nobody at Polygon said on Thursday what its own chain collects once the volume settles somewhere else.

This piece is informational, not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any asset. Licence counts come from Polygon's announcement and the Coinme closing, volume figures from the Solana Foundation and The Block, and the peso arithmetic uses the 29 October spot rate.
