Suno music AI: a song from one line, and what the credits actually cost

Suno turns one line of description into a finished song with vocals and lyrics. Mikey Shulman, Georg Kucsko, Martin Camacho and Keenan Freyberg founded it in Cambridge in 2023, coming out of Kensho, where they built speech recognition for financial data. Suno music AI sits on a multimodal AI model trained on audio, so lyrics, melody and voice come out of one pass rather than three tools stitched together. Our service card keeps the features and the checked prices in one place.

The same capability put the company in court. Music labels are suing over the training data, and the case is still running, which is the backdrop to every plan below.

What it does

The feature list follows the pitch. You upload a sketch of your own and the model continues it, you work from a phone, and the service exposes an API for anyone wiring audio into a product, with a mobile app for work away from a desk. The free tier hands out 50 credits a day.

What the credits cost

Fifty credits a day comes to 1,500 a month, which is 60% of the 2,500 credits on the $10 Pro plan. Those free credits carry no commercial rights and require attribution, so a track made on them cannot go into a video you monetise.

Pro gives 250 credits per dollar and Premier, at $30 for 10,000 credits, gives 333, so the larger plan runs 25% cheaper per credit. Across a year that is $120 against $360 for four times the output, and the choice turns on volume rather than features.

Who it fits

Who it fits: someone scoring a video, a developer wiring generated audio into a product through the paid tiers, a writer who wants to hear a song instead of describing one. Anyone selling the result needs a paid plan, which is the line the free credits do not cross. The voice selection in our catalogue puts the alternatives beside it.

We wrote in September about Suno adding speech to the same model, two weeks after Universal added 60,202 songs to its claim. The product keeps shipping while the rights question stays open, and buyers of the paid tier are the ones carrying that risk in the meantime.

Informational material, not a purchase recommendation. Plan prices come from the company's own page and were checked on 12 October 2026, and the litigation with music labels is still open.
