World Liberty Financial plans WLFI buyback funded by USD1 reserve fees

World Liberty Financial, the crypto company backed by Donald Trump’s family, will buy back its own WLFI governance token. The company announced the WLFI buyback in a post on X on Thursday, 5 November, and named neither an amount nor a start date, Reuters reported.

Funding the WLFI buyback

“We plan to fund buybacks with an initial allocation that may include fees earned from USD1 reserves and other sources,” the company wrote. USD1 is World Liberty’s dollar stablecoin. Its market cap stands at $3.58 billion, by CoinGecko data, down from $4.43 billion in early October after a wave of redemptions.

World Liberty says the buybacks should draw more holders into WLFI governance and give long-term holders more voting power. It plans to make them an ongoing part of its strategy.

Earlier buybacks

WLFI holders approved a buyback-and-burn plan in September 2025, with 99% voting in favour. Fees from the liquidity the protocol owns were to buy WLFI on the market and destroy it. The first round burned 7.89 million WLFI worth about $1.43 million, Cointelegraph reported.

DL News later tracked two bigger purchases: about $9 million for almost 51 million tokens on 10 October 2025, and about $10 million for 59 million tokens in late November. This week’s announcement does not say whether World Liberty will burn the tokens it buys or keep them.

WLFI price

WLFI traded at $0.0469 on Friday, up 5.3% in 24 hours and down 7.1% over the week, CoinGecko data show. Reuters, citing CoinMarketCap, reported that the token has lost about 10% since the US midterm elections and more than 60% this year. It sits 85.8% below its record of $0.33, set on 1 September 2025. About 31.8 billion of the 100 billion WLFI are in circulation, worth $1.49 billion.

Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in the midterms, Investing.com reported, and the $TRUMP memecoin fell 22% to a record low the same week.

World Liberty’s owners

Trump, his three sons and partners including the Witkoff family co-founded World Liberty in 2024. The Trump family owns 38% of the company, which earns money from WLFI and USD1. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll, 63% of Americans called such earnings inappropriate while Trump is in office.

What it means for you

A buyback adds demand for WLFI when World Liberty buys, and the company has named neither a sum nor a schedule. If you hold WLFI, follow its on-chain purchases: in 2025 DL News tracked them through public wallet records. World Liberty designed the program to give long-term holders more say in votes, and the Trump family already owns 38% of the company.

Based on World Liberty Financial’s post on X and Reuters’ report of 5 November 2026. Prices from CoinGecko on 6 November. This is not investment advice.
