AI data center IPO falls 33% on debut in Seoul
Elice, a Seoul provider of data centre capacity for AI workloads, priced its shares at 90,500 won and closed its first trading day at 60,500. That is a third below the offer. The listing raised $151m and left the company worth about $755m, so the money raised equals a fifth of what the market now says the whole business is worth.
The book said the opposite. Retail orders ran at more than 400 times the allocation, which is the kind of demand that normally produces a first-day jump. Between the close of the book and the close of the first session, the same investors changed their minds about what AI infrastructure is worth.
“Retail orders came in at more than 400 times the allocation, and the stock still closed a third below the offer price.”

How much of it was the market
We measured how much of that was Elice and how much was the market around it. The KOSPI fell 3.73% today to 5,552.74, and 7.6% across four sessions from 6,008.81 on 14 October. Samsung Electronics lost 3.0% on the day and SK Hynix 4.2%. Elice fell more than four times harder than its own index, so the index explains part of the move and the company explains the rest.
The doubt was not invented in Seoul this morning. CoreWeave, the closest listed comparable, finished at $61.12 against $77.81 on 13 October, which is 21.4% in five sessions. The question in both prices is the same one: whether spending on AI infrastructure returns the money it costs, and when.
Oil and crypto on the same day
Oil moved the other way on the same clock. Brent topped $111 a barrel, the highest since May, with WTI at $100.69 and a spread of $10.52 between them on Middle East supply worries. On Monday, when we wrote about the strike on a St Petersburg terminal, Brent was $107.35. Three and a half percent in two sessions.
Crypto took the same direction as the rest. Bitcoin traded at $81,524, down 1.01% on the day, with ether at $2,386, XRP at $1.29 and solana at $104.11. Technology shares, bitcoin and gold all fell together, which means the session was one trade about rates and risk rather than four separate stories.
What settles next
Data centres now carry an argument in two places at once. In markets they are a bet on returns that has started to be questioned out loud, and in US politics they are already the vehicle for the AI fight going into the midterms. What settles the Seoul part is narrow: whether Elice trades back to 90,500 won, and how the next AI infrastructure listing is priced after watching this one.
Informational material, not investment advice. Quotes were read on the afternoon of 20 October 2026, and a first trading day is not a verdict on a company.
