Ukraine struck an oil terminal in St Petersburg on Sunday as part of an aerial attack involving more than a thousand drones against Russian energy infrastructure. Brent crude opened Monday at $107.35 a barrel.

Russia began this war with its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and has spent the years since firing at Ukrainian power plants and substations through one winter after another. Ukraine strikes the refineries, pipelines and terminals that pay for those missiles. Russia's targets keep apartments warm; Ukraine's targets fund the army that is shelling them.
What the strike hits in the budget
Russia's 2026 budget counts on 8.918 trillion roubles of oil and gas revenue out of 40.283 trillion in total, which is 22% of everything the state collects, down from 42% in 2022. October's take is running near $12bn, about $390m a day, so every terminal that stops loading cuts into that daily figure.
How crypto reacted
Bitcoin trades at $82,618, up 1.35% on the day. Ether is at $2,425, XRP at $1.31 and solana at $105.63. For a war headline that is a small move: the market read the strike through the oil price, not through the front line.
Traders treat a Ukraine oil terminal strike as a supply event, and that is why Brent moved further on Monday than bitcoin did. The asymmetry between the two campaigns shows up in the same place. A Russian missile into a substation takes light from a city for a week. A drone into a loading berth takes dollars out of the budget for as long as the repair runs.
Brent above $107 pushes inflation up, which narrows the room the Federal Reserve has to cut rates. That is the same chain that moved crypto last week, when US CPI came in at 3.7% and funding on bitcoin perpetuals flipped negative inside a session.
Money was already leaving the funds before the strike. Bitcoin ETFs lost $228.58m last week and ether ETFs $319.97m, with October's bitcoin outflow reaching $617.17m, close to three weeks at last week's pace, and our flow tracking showed the same direction across the previous five sessions.
What settles next
Three things settle from here. Whether Brent holds above $100 into the next CPI print. Whether October's ETF outflow passes $1bn. And whether Russian oil and gas revenue falls under the 22% the budget assumes, which is the number that decides how long the invasion can be financed at this rate.
Informational material, not investment advice. Oil and crypto prices were read on the morning of 19 October 2026, and a single strike rarely holds a price on its own.
