Bitcoin ETF outflows hit $643m on Friday, leaving 2026 barely green
US spot bitcoin ETFs lost $643.3 million on Friday 30 October, per SoSoValue data reported by CoinDesk. That is the biggest one-day exit since 25 June, when $696.3 million left, and the 12th largest since the funds launched in January 2024. Friday was the first trading day after the Binance hack.
Who sold
- BlackRock's IBIT: $233.7 million out.
- Fidelity's FBTC: $201.4 million out.
- All other funds together: about $208 million out.
The two biggest funds carried 68% of the day's outflow. Friday also beat the $635.5 million exit of 22 October, so October now holds two of the year's largest outflow days, six sessions apart. Bitfire Research says total assets in spot bitcoin ETFs fell below $100 billion, to $98.14 billion.
The year's cushion
Before Friday, bitcoin ETFs had taken in just over $1 billion net in 2026. Friday's bitcoin ETF outflows wiped out 63.6% of that. By our count about $370 million of net inflow is left for the year, less than a single bad day can take out.
The Coinbase premium, the gap between the BTC price on Coinbase and on offshore exchanges, stayed negative at about -0.18% to -0.27%: US buyers paid less than the rest of the market. The Fear & Greed index sat at 30 to 34. Spot ether ETFs also had outflows for the week, according to Bitfire.
“Another layer of uncertainty”
— Nick Forster, founder and CEO of Derive, on the Binance hack, quoted by CoinDesk · coindesk.com
Nick Forster, founder and CEO of the options exchange Derive, tied the exit to the $6.3 billion Binance theft late on Thursday, which hit a market already under pressure.
Our count for October
On Thursday, after four days of inflows, the October total for bitcoin funds stood near $128 million in the black, as we counted in our ETF flows piece. Friday reversed that:
- The week of 26–30 October: about $440 million in over four days, then $643 million out, so about $203 million out net.
- October: about $515 million out net, by our estimate from daily data.
What comes next
Bitfire lists three dates for the coming week:
- 3 November: US midterm elections.
- 6 November: nonfarm payrolls.
- MSCI's final list of companies hit by its new rules for non-operating companies. Strategy (MSTR) and Metaplanet could be excluded.
If you hold ETF shares, watch the MSCI decision too. Strategy holds more bitcoin than any other listed company, and index funds that drop it would have to sell its shares.
