Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad, 35, will step down as chief executive of Bitpanda in the first quarter of 2027 for personal reasons, BTC-Echo reports. He has run the Austrian exchange alone for about ten months, and his exit starts the third rebuild of its operating leadership in thirteen months.

The late submission of a crypto-asset whitepaper, which was not submitted to the FMA at least 20 working days before publication, and a marketing communication distributed before the required whitepaper was published.

Bitpanda CEO changes, in order

Three announcements, thirteen months:

  • August 2025: co-founder Paul Klanschek leaves day-to-day work, and Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad becomes co-CEO alongside co-founder Eric Demuth.
  • Around November 2025: Demuth moves to the board as executive chairman, and Enzersdorfer-Konrad is left as sole chief executive.
  • September 2026: Enzersdorfer-Konrad announces he will go in the first quarter of 2027, and co-founder Christian Trummer steps up from chief scientist to co-CEO.

Enzersdorfer-Konrad has worked at Bitpanda since 2018 and took the top job only last year. He says he will run the company in full until he leaves, and he blamed no internal problem for going.

Read the list by who holds the chair rather than by who is leaving it. Bitpanda has three co-founders. Two of them stepped back from operations inside four months of each other, a manager from the ranks took over, and thirteen months later the third co-founder is stepping in. The company tried running itself without a founder at the wheel for ten months, and that is the experiment now ending.

Four senior people have left or announced departures this year. Chief financial officer Jonas Larsen went in June for personal reasons and by mutual agreement, replaced by Barbara Edelmann from inside the finance team. Chief commercial officer Dominik Beier, who ran marketing and international expansion for nearly four years, goes to the broker flatexDEGIRO as chief growth officer in January 2027. Martin Beranek, commercial director for Austria and Switzerland, had already left after about three years. No one has stated a connection between any of them.

The fine that set the clock

The regulatory year has been sharper than the personnel one. On 14 August the Austrian regulator fined Bitpanda 70,000 euros, the first published enforcement case under the European crypto rules. The whitepaper for its Vision token reached the regulator later than the twenty working days the rules demand, and the marketing went out before the whitepaper was published. The penalty is legally binding.

Seventy thousand euros will not trouble a company of this size, and that is the point of a first case. It sets the clock, names the two articles, and tells every other licensed venue in Europe which order the paperwork goes in. Compare it with Singapore's approach, where the rule arrives with the reserve ratio attached before anyone ships.

What it is not

Bitpanda is not shrinking, which separates this from the exchanges that are. CoinEx closed this week after nine years and set a custody fee that empties a balance by design. Bitpanda is doing something different and more ordinary: it is deciding, for the third time in just over a year, who should be in charge while nothing external forces the question.

Informational material, not investment advice. Nobody involved has alleged that the departures are connected.
