Franklin Templeton files two bitcoin DRIP ETFs on Nasdaq
Franklin Templeton filed Form 8-A on 22 October for two bitcoin DRIP ETFs, the last paperwork before a listing. The Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF will trade on Nasdaq as FBEQ against the VettaFi US Large-Cap 500 Bitcoin DRIP Index, and the Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF as FIBT against the VettaFi US Innovation 100 index. The filings name 27 October as the effective date; the firm has not confirmed that trading starts then.
Both funds hold 95% equities and 5% bitcoin, and instead of reinvesting the stock dividends into more shares, they route the payouts into bitcoin. That is the whole idea, and the question it raises is how much money actually moves.
“The funds will initially allocate 95% to equities and 5% to bitcoin, automatically reinvesting stock dividends into additional bitcoin exposure.”

A trickle of about 0.94% a year
Nobody publishes a yield for the VettaFi indices yet, so we measured the closest proxies ourselves on 26 October. SPY paid $7.58 across four distributions over twelve months on a $767.07 share price, a 0.99% yield. QQQ paid $3.09 on $714.87, or 0.43%.
Apply that to a 95% equity sleeve. FBEQ would send about 0.94% of net assets a year into bitcoin; FIBT about 0.41%. Starting from a 5% position and holding prices still, the large-cap fund needs roughly five years of dividends to add another five percentage points of bitcoin, and the innovation fund about twelve. The DRIP is a trickle. The 5% sleeve at launch is the position.
That is not a criticism of the design so much as a correction to how it reads. An investor who wants a tenth of their money in bitcoin does not get there by waiting; they get there by buying a fund that starts with a tenth. What the DRIP buys is the absence of a decision, which is the same thing a conventional dividend reinvestment plan sells, pointed at a different asset.
Price moves the sleeve faster than dividends
Worth keeping in view: the share also drifts with price. A year in which bitcoin doubles moves the sleeve further than a decade of dividends, and a year in which it halves undoes them. We counted last week that 11.1 million coins still sit with no identifiable owner, and products like these are how the identified side grows, a fraction of a percent at a time.
Informational material, not investment advice. The yields above are our own measurement of SPY and QQQ on 26 October 2026 used as proxies, not the VettaFi index yields, and neither fund has started trading.
