NEAR rose 23% routing Zcash trades. Zcash rose 4.6%
NEAR rose 23.15% over 24 hours on Monday morning, and CoinDesk traced the move to Zcash swap traffic. Zcash itself rose 4.59% in the same window. The token doing the routing moved five times as much as the token being routed.
The service is NEAR Intents, a cross-chain swap layer that lets a wallet swap one token for another without the holder first shifting funds between networks. Consumer wallets including ZODL and Vizor have wired it in to offer ZEC swaps, and CoinDesk reports the daily ZEC volume passing through it rose sixfold in a week. That is a real change in where the trades happen, and the price reaction sits on top of it.
The router outran the asset
Size is what makes the reaction worth checking. NEAR carried a market cap of roughly $4.52bn before the move and $5.57bn after it, so about $1.05bn was added in a session. Zcash's entire daily trading volume, across every venue that lists it, is $1,188.1m. The capitalisation NEAR picked up in one day equals 88.1% of a full day of all Zcash trading everywhere. The routing layer would have to capture close to a whole market's daily turnover in value for the arithmetic to settle.
Monday's board looked like this:
- NEAR: $4.26, up 23.15% in 24 hours, market cap $5.57bn.
- ZEC: $1,512.73, up 4.59%, market cap $25.65bn.
- BTC $81,713 up 1.55%, ETH $2,669.63 up 3.45%, BNB $772.29 up 2.64%.
The turnover ratio says the rest. NEAR traded $2,135.0m over the same 24 hours against its $5.57bn capitalisation, which is 38.3% of the token changing hands in a day. Zcash's ratio is 4.6% and bitcoin's is 1.45%, so NEAR turned over 26 times faster than bitcoin relative to its size. A number like that describes a token being traded, not one being accumulated.
What the wallets actually did
“Pleasantly surprised at the volume of Near Intents activity in Cake after launching it along with Zcash.”

The wallet path is older than the price move. NEAR Intents passed $10bn in cumulative swap volume in January, and the Zcash integrations run back to autumn 2025. What changed this month is the traffic, not the plumbing. We checked a similar headline four days ago, when Zcash was reported as jumping 23% and had actually moved 7.4%, so the number in a market headline is worth measuring before it is repeated.
Bitcoin's own morning was the quieter part of the same session: $81,713, up 1.55%, still adding to the ground it took after the SEC cleared a path for onchain tokenized stocks on Thursday. Asian equities rose about 1% on trade-talk progress, and Brent fell 2% to just above $101 in a fourth straight decline. On a day when the large assets moved by single digits, the token that grew 23% did it on someone else's trading volume.
