Nine US companies refuse tokenized shares on OKXICE

Nine US-listed companies told OKXICE they do not want tokenised versions of their shares traded there. The venue, owned jointly by the exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange, which also owns the New York Stock Exchange, published the objections on 17 October. The list is Cerebras Systems, AppLovin, Applied Digital, Rocket Lab, CoreWeave, Verizon, Applied Optoelectronics, Broadcom and UnitedHealth Group.

The proportion is the story. OKXICE named 63 tickers when it filed with the SEC on 4 October. Nine said no, which is 14% of them. The other 54 either agreed or said nothing, and under these rules saying nothing is agreeing.

How the objection works

That default comes from the innovation exemption the SEC issued on 17 September, a five-year conditional order that runs to 2031. A venue notifies a company 30 days before it lists the token, the company has 30 calendar days to object, and an objection filed in time bars that venue and only that venue. Each new venue starts its own 30-day clock.

So a company that wants no tokenised version of itself anywhere has to object to every venue that ever applies, inside 30 days, every time. The burden sits with the issuer rather than with the platform, and it never expires while the exemption runs.

Why these nine

Five of the nine sell AI compute: Cerebras, Applied Digital, CoreWeave, Applied Optoelectronics and Broadcom. That is the group whose valuations are already being argued over in public, and CoreWeave is the same name that has lost 21.4% in five sessions while a Seoul AI data centre listing fell 33% on its first day. A company fighting a question about its own price has an obvious reason to refuse a second price formed somewhere else.

“Uncertainty over price, liquidity and volatility, plus the risk of investor confusion and no clear benefit to shareholders.”

— Applied Optoelectronics, Stated reason for its objection

The second price

That second price is not theoretical. When five issuers put tokenised Tesla shares on different chains this month, their quotes agreed within 0.30%, which is close but not the same number. OKXICE plans permissioned liquidity pools on X Layer, pairing each stock against USDC, USDG or USDT, so a share would have a dollar price and a stablecoin price at once.

Nasdaq is opting out as well, saying tokenised trading outside the national market system could diverge on price and transparency. OKXICE still intends to proceed with dozens of names, Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla and JPMorgan among them, and has not given a launch date. The next count of objections is the number worth watching, because it says whether 14% was the ceiling or the start.

Informational material, not investment advice. The objection window and the list of tickers come from the venue's own notice, and OKXICE has not named a launch date.
