A golden exchange bell behind a lowered red and white barrier arm

Euronext halted the CoinShares Zcash ETP on its first day over settlement

Euronext suspended the CoinShares Zcash ETP on Euronext Paris on 28 October, the day it was meant to start trading, and the notice said the suspension holds until further notice without giving a reason. The product carries the ticker ZCSH and the ISIN GB00BNRRG954, holds ZEC outright, trades in euros and charges 1.5% a year. CoinShares had announced the listing a few hours earlier.

Flavio Bornancin-Tomasella, Euronext's press and communications manager, told Cointelegraph the measure is strictly limited to operational settlement requirements, and that it lasts until the Central Securities Depository can support standard settlement for the line. Neither Euronext nor CoinShares has given a date for that. CoinShares had not answered Cointelegraph's question by the time it published. The firm had pitched the wrapper as a way around an access problem: ZEC trades at a limited set of platforms and custodians, and the ETP puts it in an ordinary securities account with no keys to manage. What stopped it sits one layer below that account.

“standard settlement operations can be fully supported by the Central Securities Depository”

Plumbing, not policy

Three Zcash ETPs already trade in Europe, from 21Shares, Virtune and Valor, all launched earlier this year, and the CoinShares one would have been the fourth. No regulator acted on Wednesday. One security could not clear the settlement chain that every listed instrument runs through, so Euronext stopped it before trades piled up that the depository could not clear.

A European rule points at shielded Zcash and carries a date. Article 79 of EU Regulation 2024/1624 bars regulated institutions and crypto-asset service providers from keeping accounts that allow transactions to be anonymised, and it applies from 10 July 2027, which is the clock worth watching here. Wednesday had nothing to do with it.

Ten years old on the day Euronext blocked it

Zcash mined its genesis block on 28 October 2016, which puts the suspension on the network's tenth birthday. ZEC trades at $1,276, down 1.2% over the day and 60% below the $3,192 of that launch week. The coin reached $1,700.87 in late September and fell to around $1,050 by 18 October.

Grayscale's Zcash ETF has traded on NYSE Arca under ZCSH since 25 August, so the same four letters keep running in New York while the Paris line stays frozen.

Trading opens when a depository confirms it can settle the line, and that is the only thing that has to happen. The next date on the Zcash calendar is 5 November, when developers aim to activate NU7 on mainnet.

Informational material, not investment advice. The suspension, the reason and the quote come from Euronext through Cointelegraph on 28 October 2026, and CoinShares has not commented. The price is Binance's, the comparison with the 2016 launch week and the anniversary arithmetic are ours, and the Grayscale listing date comes from the fund's own filing.
